Guys Write for Guys Read: Boys’ Favorite Authors Write About Being Boys

Jon Scieszka can take a boy from diapers, with his Trucktown books, all the way to middle school with his Guys Write for Guys Read. This book is a collection of short stories written by an impressive array of guys who write books for young people. From Jack Gantos and Dav Pilkey to T. A. Barron and Christopher Paolini, there is something in here for every guy, and that’s the idea. This is a great way to give guys a chance to sample these authors, and maybe they’ll connect with one or two of them and go find their books on the library shelf. The stories themselves are short but entertaining and sometimes powerful. If you have a young reader who doesn’t have a lot of time and maybe not a lot of interest in reading, try this. The short stories are perfect reading just before bedtime and may just be the spark that lights someone’s inner fire.
