Carlos, the middle son in the Fuentes family, is definitely his own person. He considers Alex soft, and wants to maintain his gang membership. However, circumstances and situations land Carlos in Denver, and Carlos resents the move. He ultimately moves in with a family that has rules, structure, and a young daughter name Kiara. Rebellious, Carlos breaks the rules and resists the structure. As for Kiara, she is very different from the girls Carlos likes. Yet, Carlos is intrigued. Will Carlos and Kiara obey or break the rules of love?
In the second book of the trilogy, Rules of Attraction follows the same format as Perfect Chemistry. Kiara and Carlos tell their story in alternating chapters. Similarly, the dialogue is witty and provocative. The action is fast-paced and the characters are portrayed realistically. Although Carlos and Kiara are similar to Alex and Brittany in some ways, in other ways they are not. Elkeles writes this story to match the personalities of Carlos and Kiara. 330 pages Ages 14 and up
