Thirteen year old Mary Harold Woods has a tough time getting along with others in her suburban Virginia community because she has been bullied and suffers panic attacks.
Now she decides to “borrow” her mom’s truck and drive 700 miles to the small town of Wren, Alabama, where her grandma lives. Her mom follows and agrees to let her stay for the summer.
Life is a lot simpler on the dairy farm and Mary Harold finds her place in the warm embrace of this town. She befriends the daughter of the farm manager and discovers that love and friendship are worth fighting for.
