The other side of the tracks in Portsmouth, Ohio where there are separate schools, separate restrooms and separate neighborhoods for black people is where a boy named Chuck grew up.  His mother told him he would be like the trains on the tracks that ran through the town...he would not stop here.

So, Chuck got a good education at school and he spent hours throwing stones at the logos on the sides of the moving trains as they blew by.  He could hit that logo even when the wind was working against him.

Chuck got so good at throwing that when he went into high school he became a very successful quarterback on the football team.  He won every game he quarterbacked in high school and went on to win in college, too.

So, what American football team drafted Chuck Ealey?  Can you name the team?  This story makes a great conversation starter and would be a terrific read aloud during Black History Month or any other month.
