Sometimes you walk into someone’s house for the first time and you feel hugged.  It’s as though there is a warmth, a love, a security and even a smell that wraps around you in the very best way.

That very warmth lights up the rooms and the pages of IN PLAIN SIGHT.  Meet the grandfather, built of love, comfort and a good dose of playfulness who rests himself in his wheelchair while dreaming up new places to hide things.  The apple of his eye, Sophie,  his granddaughter, comes to visit him every day knowing he will have something conveniently lost that he needs her to find.

This great game plays out on the pages and we get to play along.  Whatever is missing will be hidden in the beautifully, rich bookshelves or maybe in the fish tank.  If you look hard enough, you can find it before you turn the page and see where his granddaughter discovered it.

If you look a little harder, you might catch a glimpse of the love this grandfather has for his granddaughter and the love she has for him.  If you look even a little bit harder at what lines the shelves of this loving grandfather’s room,  you can piece together some clues about the life and spirit.

Stories within stories.  A golden glow in every room.  This is family at it very best.  You’ll wish they lived next door just so you could walk in that front door.

Jerry Pinkney gloriously celebrates the importance of family in the life of every child,  the power of the love of grandparents to make children feel whole and honors the choices and achievements of the generations who have come before us.
