What difference can one life make?  A few hundred years ago, before phones rang, before cars roared down highways and even before cement was poured and electricity lit up rooms, all the way back to 1774 in Massachusetts, a boy was born. His name was John Chapman and he was one of eleven children.

As John grew up, he loved to read and he loved nature.  He looked around at the world he was growing up in and he made some decisions for himself about how he was going to live his life.  He chose to give to others.  He chose to get along with everyone.  He chose to give apple seeds and apple saplings to pioneers headed west.

One family at a time. One sapling at a time.  One small deed at a time.  He made his difference.  This is Johnny Appleseed we are talking about here.  He left us five rules to consider for our own lives:

Use what you have.

Share what you have.

Respect Nature.

Try to make peace where there is war.

You can reach your destination by taking small steps.

So, Johnny Appleseed spread apple trees across America.  What seed will you choose to plant?
