Following a long line of Jacks here is another delightful tale about a young boy who lives with his grandpa "on a tiny farm way out in the country" and who dreams of venturing forth to see the world.  Our Jack goes to his grandpa and says, "Grandpa, I want to see the world and make new friends and live in a house in the city.  How do I do it?"  The wise Grandpa sends Jack to the city to seek help from the king.

So our Jack sets off on his adventure,  along the way meeting a long line of excited and hopeful animals who decide to join him.  Seems everyone would love to make new friends, see the world and live in a house in the city.

With a quacking and a mooing and a neighing and even some hooting, the gang draws near the king and castle.

Every page of this story has a rosy cast to it that looks like the sun is rising in all its glory or maybe setting with the most beautiful light.  The animals are smiling, the journey is filled with happy thoughts and everyone is full of the positive dream of what lies ahead.  This is Tomie DePaola at his best delivering a warm, gentle tale that gets a young mind to dreaming and holds them fast to the pages with the delight and fun of a Tomie masterpiece.
