The King's Equal

This is the one book that has ever come to Katherine Paterson while she was in the shower! This is a fairy tale about a selfish, greedy king who has to find a woman who is his equal in beauty, intelligence and wealth, before he can wear the crown of the kingdom. His poor councilors have to find this woman for him, and they search far and wide. Meanwhile, far out in the countryside is a lovely young woman named Rosamund, whose father sends her and all the family goats deep into the country to avoid being taken by the agents of the king. Rosamund generously shares all of her food with her goats, and one day she is visited by a wolf. She treats him fairly and in return he gives her his circlet of gold. Now I probably don't need to tell you that she will meet that king, but the story does not end there....
