In 1995 the submarine H.L. Hunley was carefully raised from the bottom of the Charleston, South Carolina harbor. The submarine had been used against the Union ships that were creating a blockade of southern ports during the Civil War. This is an exploration of how the submarine was recovered and what it contained. The recovery process was painstaking and time consuming and required sifting through ton after ton of sediment to locate the contents and reconstruct what might have happened to cause the Hunley to sink. Great pictures and detailed information make this a wonderful read. 112 pages Ages 11-15
