All the animals in the zoo have someone to care for and to love, except Quackenstein. Feeling quite sad about this he takes a stroll through the zoo. He comes upon a nest of eggs that are up for adoption. Quackenstein quickly chooses an egg to adopt. “This will fill my void”, he thought. Quackenstein gently tends to his nest and takes great care of his new possession, until one dark and stormy night, the egg begins to quiver and crack. “IT’S Alive!” Quackenstein shouted. Quickly Quackenstein discovers that he has hatched a MONSTER!!

Quackenstein is taken aback and is afraid of this creature. He tries to escape and hide but runs into trouble for the monster has finally caught up to him. Looking eye to eye, the little fellow calmly says “Hello Dad...” Quackenstein sudden feels his heart begin to melt and gently takes his paw to begin the walk back home. Paw and Wing, the Duck and the Platypus, Father and Son.

Brian Jones’s illustrations are zany and hilarious. He captures the personality of Quackenstein so well.
