Highway Robbery

The sound of horses hooves pounding the road reaches the ears of a young beggar boy who is just settling into his spot for the day. The dashing rider of the horse hands the boy the reins of the horse, ruffles his hair and promises him a golden guinea if he'll just hold the horse for him until he returns. The connection that the boy feels to this man is powerful. In the moments they spoke together the boy has gotten years worth of a sense of who he might be - respected, cared for, honored. So it is that as a stream of passersby try to get the horse away from the boy, he considers his options. Should he hand the horse over for a quick pocketful of change and dinner? Or should he remain true to his promise? 128 pages Ages 8-11
