Wren is afraid of so many things.  Anxiety is her constant companion.  Sometimes the world is so overwhelming that she has to disappear into her bedroom to roll a pencil through her fingers to feel in control.

Her mother has always stood on shaky ground - crying and staring out the window.  The day has come when Wren and her brother, Russell, hear their mom has gone to a far away hospital.  The two siblings are going to live with their Aunt Marianne and their fearless, popular cousin, Silver.  Silver who holds her hand out unflinchingly for a wasp.  Nothing scares this girl.

Could her bravery rub off on Wren?  Is the world safe?  Can Wren find her way back to love, sunshine and home?

From the Library of Congress:

  • Wren Baker is an anxious twelve-year-old, so when her mother goes into a hospital for depression, and she and her younger brother, who has Asperger's syndrome, go to live with her aunt and her cousin, Silver, who have just recently moved to Pennsylvania, her stress level soars--especially since Silver is a fearless child who conceives a plan to climb Creeper Mountain and interview "Witch Weatherly" for the class history project.
