Ask for the last 3 books they’ve read or had read to them that they really liked. Now, listen for what those books have in common. Are they action/adventure books? Are they fantasy books? Are they humor books? Is this a boy whose parents cannot get him to read anything? Does he like a certain time period of history? Does he enjoy reading about bugs, monster trucks, how things work?
